Meet the Team Join the Splunk Search Experience Backend team, a core engineering organization within the Splunk Platform. Our team develops scalable search capabilities that help bring Cisco’s Data Fabric vision to life-turning machine data into AI-ready intelligence. We are seeking strong software engineers to join a team of passionate distributed-systems engineers in building the next-generation, highly scalable search platform that fuels AI-driven workflows across our products. Your Impact In this role, you will be part of the team driving the evolution of Splunk’s flagship search engine capabilities, ensuring the platform meets the next wave of customer scale, performance, and reliability needs. You will have the opportunity to partner with product, and multi-functional teams to deliver high-performance, efficient, and resilient backend search services that delight customers. Design, develop, and launch features directly powering Splunk’s core search functionalities across our product eco-system. Build robust, fault-tolerant and scalable distributed systems in a multi-threaded/multi-process environment. Define and perform various search language layer optimizations/transformations. Analyze and improve reliability, and scalability of search execution pipelines. Diagnose and solve customer incidents and issues, reflect and identify gaps in product, observability and process, and design and deliver enhancements for prevention. Hire, mentor junior engineers and grow talents on the team. Minimum Qualifications 5 years of related experience with a technical Bachelor's degree; or equivalent practical experience; or 3 years and a technical Master's degree; or equivalent practical experience. Coding proficiency in C++, and the ability to quickly learn new ones, especially Python, Java, or Go. Strong fundamentals in software engineering: data structures, algorithms, operating systems and software design. Strong debugging and troubleshooting skills including the use of associated tools. Experience in working on distributed systems like databases, file systems and storage systems. Experience with developing CI/CD systems, test automation frameworks, and integrating AI coding assistants and agentic workflows into development and testing practices. Experience in REST, grpc, or similar communication paradigms. Experience working with public cloud services such as AWS, GCP, Azure. Preferred Qualifications Passion for solving hard problems and exploring new technologies. Knowledge of deploying and managing services in Kubernetes clusters.
