About the Team The Monetization team is a new cross-functional group working across engineering, product, research, and design to build the foundational systems that will help OpenAI scale access to intelligence responsibly. Our mission is to develop user-first, privacy-preserving monetization products, including next-generation ads experiences, that strengthen user trust, unlock economic opportunity, and support OpenAI’s long-term innovation. Monetization plays a critical role in enabling OpenAI to continue pushing the boundaries of AI capabilities while ensuring the benefits of AGI are broadly shared. This team operates in a greenfield environment and moves quickly through prototyping, experimentation, and iterative deployment. We partner closely with Product, Design, Research, and external customers to bring new monetization products into real-world systems at global scale. About the Role We’re looking for an experienced Software Engineer to help build Ads Manager, the UI platform advertisers use to create, manage, measure, and optimize ad campaigns across OpenAI’s ads ecosystem. This is a foundational role responsible for designing and implementing advertiser-facing products, APIs, tools, and services that connect external customers to OpenAI’s next-generation monetization products. You’ll work across the full technical stack to build intuitive self-serve workflows for small and mid-sized advertisers, as well as scalable APIs and integrations for large enterprise advertisers, agencies, and ad-tech partners who manage campaigns through their own buying platforms or intermediary systems. This includes building advertiser-facing APIs and tooling for campaign management, conversion APIs, pixels, measurement, and insights. You will collaborate deeply with Product, Design, Research, and Go-To-Market teams to define the future of advertiser experiences while ensuring these systems meet OpenAI’s highest standards for safety, privacy, reliability, and policy alignment. In this role, you will: - Design, build, and scale Ads Manager, the core UI platform for advertisers to create, manage, measure, and optimize campaigns. - Develop advertiser-facing APIs and tools that enable programmatic campaign creation, management, targeting, delivery, measurement, and optimization. - Build conversion APIs, pixels, insights, and measurement tooling that help advertisers understand and improve campaign performance. - Create self-serve workflows that help small and mid-sized advertisers launch and optimize campaigns with clarity and confidence. - Build enterprise-grade integrations for large advertisers, agencies, and external ad-tech platforms that manage and serve campaigns at scale. - Architect distributed systems and services with strong reliability, usability, privacy, and performance guarantees. - Partner closely with Product, Design, Research, and Go-To-Market teams to translate advertiser needs into high-quality technical solutions. - Drive 0→1 product development through rapid prototyping, experimentation, and iterative deployment. - Contribute to technical strategy, propose new directions, and help shape the roadmap for OpenAI’s advertiser platform. - Maintain high engineering rigor through strong testing, documentation, observability, and operational best practices. - Uphold the highest levels of safety, privacy, fairness, and policy compliance across all advertiser-facing systems. You might thrive in this role if you: - Have 7+ years of experience building high-scale consumer, enterprise, marketplace, or ads-related systems. - Have a track record of architecting and delivering complex distributed systems, APIs, or advertiser-facing platforms. - Have experience building in Python / FastAPI and TypeScript / React. - Are excited by building both intuitive UI workflows and robust backend systems for external customers. - Have strong product intuition and enjoy translating advertiser needs into clear, reliable, and scalable product experiences. - Are comfortable navigating ambiguous product spaces and contributing to technical roadmaps and long-term direction. - Thrive in 0→1 environments where systems, architecture, and user experiences must be defined from scratch. - Communicate clearly, think holistically, and make decisions rooted in both user needs and long-term sustainability. - Are motivated by building privacy-preserving, safe, and user-first monetization systems. - Bonus: Have experience with ads managers, campaign management systems, advertiser APIs, conversion APIs, pixels, measurement systems, marketplaces, or enterprise ad-tech integrations.
