Title and Summary Manager, Software Engineering Position Overview We are seeking an experienced Engineering Manager to lead a backend and data-oriented product engineering team. This role is responsible for building and developing a strong engineering team while driving the delivery of customer-facing and platform capabilities from product definition through design, implementation, deployment, and production ownership. The ideal candidate combines strong software engineering and distributed-systems expertise with proven people leadership, product thinking, and the ability to lead complex initiatives end-to-end in close partnership with Product. Key Responsibilities Lead, mentor, and develop a team of engineers, fostering ownership, collaboration, and continuous improvement. Partner with Product to define priorities, shape solutions, and execute the team’s product and technical roadmap. Drive end-to-end delivery of product capabilities, from requirements and technical design through implementation, deployment, and production ownership. Lead architecture and technical design for scalable, reliable backend and data-intensive systems. Balance product delivery with technical quality, maintainability, reliability, and technical debt. Drive strong engineering practices including code quality, testing, observability, CI/CD, and production readiness. Manage prioritization, capacity, execution risks, and predictable delivery of strategic initiatives. Collaborate with Backend, Data Engineering, Analytics, DevOps, and other product teams on cross-team initiatives. Own recruitment, onboarding, performance management, feedback, and career development. Ensure the team learns from production incidents and continuously improves system reliability. Required Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field 7+ years of software engineering experience. 2+ years of direct engineering management experience. Strong backend software engineering and system-design experience. Experience designing and operating distributed, production-scale systems. Hands-on experience with modern data technologies and frameworks such as Kubernetes, Kafka, Spark, Flink, Airflow, DBT, Snowflake, Cassandra/ScyllaDB, or similar technologies Strong programming background in Java, Scala, Python, or similar. Experience with cloud environments and modern software delivery practices. Experience with data-intensive systems, event-driven architectures, or data pipelines. Strong understanding of reliability, observability, testing, and production operations. Strong product mindset and demonstrated ability to partner effectively with Product Management. Proven ability to lead complex initiatives and deliver customer or business outcomes. Preferred Qualifications • Exposure to UCP (Universal Commerce Protocol) or similar interoperability standards for AI agents and payment ecosystems is a bonus. • Experience working in an eCommerce or digital commerce environment is a strong advantage.
