ABOUT THE ROLE Lead an engineering pod of approximately 6 to 8 engineers at an AI-enabled fintech mortgage technology company. You will guide team health and delivery while staying hands-on with production software, partnering closely with Product and Technical Leads in a complex, high-stakes domain. WHAT YOU'LL DO - Manage and support engineers through regular 1:1s, continuous feedback, performance reviews, hiring, and career development. - Own planning, retrospectives, delivery health, and early identification of execution risks for your pod. - Spend approximately 10% to 20% of your time coding, contributing regularly to production work. - Partner with Product Managers and Technical Leads on priorities, architecture decisions, and cross-functional alignment. - Improve onboarding, documentation, and clear ownership boundaries across the team. WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR - 8 or more years of software engineering or engineering management experience, with a progressive path from individual contributor work into management. - Experience managing 5 or more direct reports, including hiring, performance management, and career growth. - Recent hands-on experience shipping production software as an engineering manager, with strong backend engineering experience. - Strong TypeScript skills and the ability to contribute code directly. - Experience with modern web and backend technologies such as React, Node.js, GraphQL, PostgreSQL, and AWS. - Comfort using AI tools in engineering workflows, with familiarity in AI product development practices such as evaluations, experiment design, and dataset curation. COMPENSATION & BENEFITS Base salary: $225,000 to $300,000 annually. Visa sponsorship is not available. LOCATION Remote within the United States.
